Melissa Hale, a graduate student in Dr. Andy Berglund’s laboratory, was awarded a fellowship from The Promise to Kate foundation. This fellowship is given to graduate students who will devote at least 50% of their effort to research that will benefit basic insights into myotonic dystrophy (DM) research and/or therapeutic approaches. Myotonic Dystrophy is an underfunded and often misdiagnosed form of Muscular Dystrophy. It is a rare genetic disorder that affects an estimated 1 in 8,000 people worldwide, or nearly 40,000 individuals in the US alone.
The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology congratulates Melissa Hale on this fellowship award!
