Depicted is a California quail (Callipepla californica), standing next to its nest with an avian adeno-associated virus (AAAV) capsid, colored as a quail egg. The AAAV was first isolated from the Olson strain of quail bronchitis, an adenovirus that causes an acute, contagious respiratory disease primarily in young quails. The image was translated from a pencil sketch to a digital image by Jane Hsi using Adobe Illustrator.
