The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Florida College of Medicine is pleased to announce a new graduate certificate in Medical Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. This 11-credit certificate provides students with a comprehensive understanding of the fundamental concepts of biochemistry and molecular biology, and how they apply to human disease. Upon completion, students will be well-positioned to advance their careers, strengthen their professional school applications, or pursue an advanced degree in scientific research.
“The molecules that make up cells and the interactions between them are at the heart of understanding how the human body functions and malfunctions,” explained Deborah Smith, Program Director. “But this certificate goes beyond the basics and teaches students how to analyze laboratory test results in both research and clinical settings. This is a critical skill that is necessary for those who want to succeed in medical school as well as those currently working in laboratories.”
The program begins with BCH 5404 Fundamentals of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. Building on that foundation, students will progress to the three advanced courses that complete the program: Eukaryotic Molecular Biology and Genetics, Medical Metabolism, and Readings in Medical Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. All courses are asynchronous and offered every semester, allowing students to complete the certificate in as few as two semesters.
Applications are currently being accepted for the inaugural Fall 2025 enrollment. Prospective students can find admission requirements by clicking the button below.
