2nd Annual Diversity Graduate Research Symposium

The University of Florida Black Graduate Student Organization in conjunction with the College of Medicine Diversity Committee are pleased to announce the 2nd Annual Diversity Graduate Research Symposium on Wednesday, October 31st, 2018 in the Reitz Union.

Welcome New Assistant Professor, Dr. Melike Caglayan

Dr. Caglayan comes to UF and our department from the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS). The primary focus of the Caglayan Lab will be the molecular mechanisms of genome integrity and the biological importance of DNA ligation failure.

Akilah Murray: Advancement to Candidacy Award

The Advancement to Candidacy Award, aimed at recognizing outstanding students in their mid-tenure after they have passed their qualifying examination in their third year of study, was awarded to Akilah Murray and two other finalists.

Undergraduate Poster Session

To highlight the work of the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology’s undergraduates, the department held the first annual undergraduate poster session where the undergraduate research students presented their work.

2018 Boyce Award Winners

Virus Journal Features Agbandje-McKenna Lab Article

Members of the Agbandje-McKenna lab group co-authored an article, Atomic Resolution Structures of Human Bufaviruses Determined by Cryo-Electron Microscopy, which was published in the January 2018 issue of the Virus journal and featured on the journal cover.
