Alumni Spotlight: Mayank Aggarwal

Dr. Mayank Aggarwal, a 2013 BMB graduate of Dr. Rob McKenna’s lab, is now a product manager and application scientist at Formulatrix, Inc. where he manages the development of two software systems, Rock Maker and Rock Imager.

2018 UF Innovator of the Year – Dr. Mavis Agbandje-McKenna

She was selected to receive this distinguished Innovator of the Year award because of the breadth and depth of her work with AAV (adeno-associated virus) gene therapy and the impact her work has had, and will have, on the global good.

Alumni Spotlight: Farzaneh Tondnevis

Dr. Farzaneh Tondnevis is a 2015 UF Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology graduate of Dr. Linda Bloom and Dr. Rob McKenna’s labs where her primary research focused on the structural, biochemical and biophysical analysis of replication proteins.

Mentor Match Celebration 2018

The Fall 2017 cohort of Ph.D. graduate students have successfully selected a mentor and research concentration. The Graduate Program in Biomedical Sciences recognized this important milestone with an inaugural Mentor-Match Celebration on August 16, 2018.

Alumni Spotlight: Barrie P. Bode

Dr. Barrie P. Bode, Professor and Chair of the Department of Biological Sciences at Northern Illinois University, graduated in 1991 from Dr. Mike Kilberg’s lab where his research focused on the mechanism by which amino acids rapidly activate the major glutamine transport system in the liver.

2nd Annual Diversity Graduate Research Symposium

The University of Florida Black Graduate Student Organization in conjunction with the College of Medicine Diversity Committee are pleased to announce the 2nd Annual Diversity Graduate Research Symposium on Wednesday, October 31st, 2018 in the Reitz Union.

Welcome New Assistant Professor, Dr. Melike Caglayan

Dr. Caglayan comes to UF and our department from the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS). The primary focus of the Caglayan Lab will be the molecular mechanisms of genome integrity and the biological importance of DNA ligation failure.

Dr. Joanna Long Promoted to Professor

Effective July 1, Dr. Joanna Long was promoted to the rank of professor. This promotion is based on the impact and importance of her research, teaching and service.
