In Honor of Dr. Mavis Agbandje-McKenna, our department and our college will be forever grateful for her contributions to science, medicine and to our institution.
The faculty, staff, and students in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology as well as colleagues throughout the UF Health Center and University Campus deeply grieve the passing of Professor Mavis Agbandje-McKenna, our colleague, teacher, fellow scientist, mentor, and friend, early on the morning of Wednesday, March 3rd.
We extend our deepest condolences to Dr. McKenna, his family and loved ones as well as to the many colleagues, students and friends across the world who are grieving the loss of Dr. Agbandje-McKenna. Our department and our college will be forever grateful for her contributions to science, medicine and to our institution.

Mavis Agbandje-McKenna, Ph.D., Scholarship Fund
The Mavis Agbandje-McKenna, Ph.D., Scholarship Fund has been established to honor Dr. Agbandje-McKenna and her belief that everyone should pay it forward. The income from this fund will be awarded to aspiring young students in science to help them establish themselves in the field of their passions with the goal of advancing equity, diversity, and inclusion in the scientific community. Funding will be used, among other things, for travel grants to attend scientific meetings, scholarships to help with educational expenses, awards for outstanding scholarly achievements, and help in preventing financial barriers that hinder success at graduate school.
